Guinea pigs are easy to pick
up and don't struggle much . Although they are very tame and never
wriggle, you should still be careful not to drop them . The best
way to pick them up is with two hands - one hand around your guinea
pigs hind quarters , to support the weight , and the other hand
around it's middle . You can either hold it like a Pup or put it
on your knee , making sure that it can't escape or fall off.
When to handle your new
guinea pigs :
Day 1: Just watch
your new pet's .
Day 2: Get them used
to your voice , even if they hide in their bedding .
Day 3: Try giving
you guinea pigs food from your hand , then pick them up . If they
wriggle hold them gently but firmly .
Days 4-7: Get your
guinea pigs out to brush and stroke them . Then show them to your
family and other pets .
Days 8-11: Let your
guinea pigs explore their grazing ark and fun run .
After two weeks:
Play with your pets every day .
Rough haired and long haired
breeds should be groomed every single day . A babies hair brush
is the only safe type of brush for grooming . Always brush the way
the fur grows . Guinea pigs seem to like being groomed and will
quickly settle down and enjoy every minute .
