SELECTING YOUR GUINEA PIGS
. Guinea pigs should always
be bought in pairs , because they are natural herd animals and enjoy
company . Unless you want to breed them buy either two males or
two females . If you have little experience avoid long haired varieties
because of all the grooming . Ask to have a look at the litter first
in order to select a healthy pair with the following :
Shiny , sleek coat
Bright eyes
Clean ears
Easy movement
Clean teeth,
not over long
No cuts or sores
No runny noses,
and firm droppings
Alert and happy appearance
Pups should be bought between
6 and 12 weeks old and fully weaned . Good pet shops will supply
a safe carrying box for the homeward journey .
